Importing in the background in UNI-Cloud
What is the background layer and why do I want it?
Well, this is relatively straight forward; the background layer shows every single point you want, no matter how many you want to import at once. So this means that you are no longer limited to the amount of points you want to import! However, this does work a bit differently than you are used to.
The objects that are imported in the background layer are visible but can not be edited. This ensures that the surveying can remain smooth even if there are thousands of points on the screen. If you have points in the background layer that you do need, you can select those elements and "enable" them. After that you are able to stake-out or edit the chosen elements to your heart's content.
How do I use the new import feature?
It's very simple actually; you import your file as you are used to but at the final stage, you get a choice. Right above the preview of your import, you get the choice to either "import in the survey database (as before)" or "import as backgroundlayer". When you select the latter, it will import as a background layer and you can import as many object as you want.
Working in this manner, ensures a faster import without limitations to the amount of objects you want to see in your project. Do you need specific references, objects or lines to identify your project, you can import them all without making any concessions on the speed of your surveyingsession!
Do keep in mind that when a drawing contains more than 500 points, thus exceeding the old importlimitation, you will not be able to select the "old method". Therefor it will automatically be imported in the backgroundlayer!
How can I enable the objects from the backgroundlayer?
After you have completed your import in the background layer, you can select the elements which you want to stake-out or edit in the field.
In the cloud, you select the desired object and you press "add background object to the survey database". That's all there is to it, you are now able to use that element exactly the same way you are used to!
Do you have a lot of objects to add to the survey database at once? You can select multiple objects to add to the survey database by pressing the button that looks like a screen with a plus inside it at the bottom of your screen. You are now able to select multiple objects and add them all to the database at once.
Can I still import like I used to?
Simple answer, yes! Instead of importing in a backgroundlayer, you can still import directly into the survey database, like you are used to. Do keep in mind that the previous limitation still apply, for example the maximum amount of points per import is 500 points.
I want to use both methods, is that possible?
Another Yes! You can get the best of both worlds in one project. Do you have one drawing with the entire cityplanning consisting of thousands of points and lines? Import it in the backgroundlayer! Do you have a specific drawing or CSV with the elements you need to stake-out? Import it directly in the survey database!
No selecting which elements you need, directly import it in the database while having all other necessary information in the background layer!
