Creating and using a layergroup

What is a layer group?

As the name suggests a layergroup is a group of layers of your choosing that you can link to a project. Are you currently working on a project that requires only a few layers, or maybe a specific set of layers, then you don't want to search through your entire layerlibrary for the layers you want. In this situation a layergroup would come in handy!

How do I create a layer group?

Log into UNI-Cloud
Go to "survey", "layers", "layer groups" and then you press "create"
Here you can give the layer group a name (max. 64 characters)
Add the layers you want in this group (keep in mind that a layer group must contain at least one layer)
Below the layer selection, you can also link a project in which you want to use this specific layergroup, if you had already created the project beforehand
Lastly save the layer group

Every layer you add will be visible in the projects linked to this layer group, whenever you pick a layer during a survey, for example the map's layer toggle, the record menu, the edit shape menu, and the manual point panel. All other layers stay hidden, so you're left with a clean shortlist of only what you need.

Can I also link the layergroup to a new project directly?

Yes! When you create a new project, you can select the layergroup you want to use in this project. You are even able to link multiple layergroups to your project if there are more layergroups needed.

Editing and deleting

You can edit a layer group at any time: add or remove layers, and add or remove linked projects. Layers you add stay in the group after saving; layers you remove are gone after saving. If a layer is deleted from your layer library altogether, it's automatically removed from any layer group it belonged to.

Creating and deleting a layer group is only possible in UNI-Cloud, not in UNI-Collect. Linking or unlinking a layer group to a project, however, can be done from either UNI-Cloud or UNI-Collect, and syncs automatically between the two.

No layer group selected

If you don't select a layer group for your project, all layers in your library will be shown , just like you're used to. Layer groups are optional: only use one if you want a shorter list to work with.
